My biggest dream since childhood has always been an imposing, noble Great Dane. As a child, I grew up with Newfoundland dogs and my first dog of my own was a great, funny beagle who was with me in everything until recently. Whether on horseback, cycling, jogging or even with the gentle giants, he was there.
KyDD breeders introduce themselves!
Here you will always find breeders who were also present in the last issues of the club magazine with a kennel presentation. Since there is always a kennel performance and the oldest presentation is canceled, these presentations are always up-to-date. Older performances can be found at the end of this page in the archive.
The texts published here originate without exception from the breeders shown and have not been editorially checked or edited. The breeders have expressly consented to the use of the text, images, logos and contact details by submitting the material to the print magazine.
With the Great Danes from the Baltic Sea fjord
A Great Dane cannot be explained with words, you have to experience it with its charm and its lovable, clumsy manner. It always wants to be there and please its people. Nobility, elegance and good nature conquer the hearts of all mastiff owners and so the Great Dane is an absolute family dog and loyal companion for life.
We are at home high up in northern Germany, on the Danish border.
Our namesake, the Ostseefjord, is a foothill of the Baltic Sea and invites you to a wonderful relaxing holiday. History is very important here in the north: Schleswig Cathedral, Gottorf Castle and the Viking Museum are just a small selection of the sights.
From here we travel to many European countries with our mastiffs in order to present them to the exhibition audience and the specialist judges and to get the highest possible marks and titles.
Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Belgium, England, France, Spain, Hungary, Italy, San Marino, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria and Switzerland have been our destinations so far.
We can look back on countless titles and experiences, so we have club winners from Austria, Switzerland, Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, and Croatia and national winners, European youth winners and world youth winners in our ranks.
Every trip brought along a lot of historical knowledge, in addition to one or the other title, because we often combine our exhibitions with a short vacation and some sightseeing.
My first Great Dane Bam Bam (Samba Liberte breeder B. Rettig) moved in with me in 2003 and since then it has happened to me. No other breed was able to convince me and promptly Paula and Heini came to us over the next few years, with whom the exhibition fever grabbed me.
My mastiffs came from Germany, Spain, Italy and Russia, because there are also beautiful specimens beyond the national borders that can refresh our breeding.
After almost 13 years of exhibiting, the idea came up to try breeding yourself and so Lotti (Taira v Frankenland) moved in with us in September 2016. My breeding should begin with her, because the potential stud dog was my own Kasimir vde Quellen and 2 years older than Lotti.
Our breeding goals are health, longevity and strength of character and so we hope to inspire interested dog fans for this breed and to make them happy with one or the other puppy.
In February 2020 it should be ready and we started the attempt to cover Lotti, which unfortunately did not work because Kasimir was no longer healthy. So we decided for Kasimir's son Norbert (Guard v H Wagner) who also lives with us the next time we heat.
For another stud dog of mine I was looking for a suitable bitch and got the tip to try a rascal breeder, there would be something there for sure. I went there and took two bitches (sisters) with me, because they didn’t have a good life and I wanted to free them from the kennel life. After about 2 weeks it turned out that one of the two was pregnant and so I became a breeder faster than planned. Everything was bought and built as quickly as possible and with a specially made litter box and a freshly renovated litter room, my A-litter with 6 males and 4 females was born on May 27th, 2020. Exciting and exciting at the same time as a newcomer, we mastered mastitis with a lot of telephone help and in the end let 9 healthy and lively puppies out into the wide world. Number ten stayed with us for their own salvation.
The feedback from the new families has been very nice, so we have probably done everything right so far.
Now, with the initial knowledge, the actual A ... now nothing stood in the way of the B litter, we mated Lotti in August and on October 13th, 2020 after Norbert 10 cute puppies in blue and black were born. The birth was carried out by a caesarean section (torn uterus) and the mother was not doing so well for the first 4 days. We really accelerated and fed the puppies with a bottle until Mama Lotti took the scepter herself.
Unfortunately, after 4.5 weeks, mastitis developed with a burst teat and so Lotti was separated from the babies so that she could recover. It took almost 2.5 weeks until she had recovered to some extent and was able to see the puppies.
All in all, not a nice experience as a first breeder. Nevertheless, we are going out of these two litters strengthened and are eagerly awaiting the coming year.
In 2021 two more litters are planned in spotted / black and yellow / brindle.
Now we can call ourselves breeders, whereby the focus is more on exhibitions, because that's a lot of fun and we get to know a lot of people in different countries.
We should all have the same goal regardless of breed, exhibition and club ... .. a healthy and happy Great Dane and share this hobby with many great people.

The first litter box ...... ..
The first excitement before the unknown ...... ..
It is so wonderful to be there from the very first second and to raise the babies. Lying in the whelping box with the first babies, or just watching them.
Of course, one male and one female had to remain from the first litter. Thus, Al Capone and Aurelia von Gut Stepprath enrich our pack.
Aurelia Al Capone
The dream with Al Capone from Gut Stepprath
Crufts 2018
Al Capone got his Crufts Quali in Amsterdam in 2017 and so we made our way to Birmingham in 2018.
I was happy that I was allowed to start there. Full of anticipation and in a good mood, we made our way to the Crufts halls early in the morning. After we had prepared everything, we waited for our start.
At 10.30 the time had come: the Yearling class started.
Al Capone was able to prevail against 12 competitors and reached 1st place - simply unbelievable. But what happened next, we would never have dreamed:
Al Capone prevailed against all first-placed males of all classes and became best male.
In the jump-off against the best bitch, Al Capone was able to win at 18 months. Just pure madness!
BOB at the CRUFTS 2018
It was a breathtaking feeling to be able to represent the Great Dane in the main ring on the Crufts. Cheered on and supported by many dear people.
Then the whole thing was poured with champagne.
B litter (06.08.2016 Rachel from Auryn x Grande Gremin's Dark Dargo)
I kept a black bitch from my B litter. Our Bella from Gut Stepprath.
So that it didn't get too boring with 3 young dogs, my bear moved to Gut Stepprath.
Thus Elderberry's Baba Bear enriches us as a blue male in our pack. The 2 boys get along great to this day.
I was also able to visit many great exhibitions with Bär and take some titles home with me.
The dream with Baba Bear
World Dog Show Amsterdam 2018! When dreams come true 2.0!
What a great weekend it was again!
I would not have thought it possible to experience such a great success again with another male.
But dreams are there to come true.
Bär became world winner in 2018

C litter (04/18/2017 Rachel von Auryn x Alexander Bodhi van Rosherta)
Unfortunately Rachel's litter came much too early, around the 55th day. Unfortunately the male only made it 10 days. After that I took Rachel out of breeding and she now loves to help with all litters as an aunt.
D litter (02.07.2017 Elderberry´s Wannabe x Alexander Bodhi van Rosherta)
From the D litter, the loving darling enriched our pack. Unfortunately she got an immune disease (masticatory muscle myositis) and we had to redeem her and let her go over the rainbow bridge when she was 2 years old.
Joy and sorrow are always so close together.
E litter (09.08.2017 Elderberry´s Yolaine x Elderberry´s Zet TQ Limited Edition)
All of them have found a great family from this litter.
F litter (25.06.2018 Elderberry's Yolaine x Cherkan Heinrich von der Franconian Switzerland)
All babies were placed, Fee came back to us when she was around nine months and I didn't have the heart to give her into other hands, Fee has stayed with us ever since.
Actually I only had one pack, but Fee couldn't really integrate herself and so she is with her best friend Dream.
Renescent Beautiful Dream was born on June 9th, 2018 in England, I fell in love with this litter and so 4 months later we went to England to get the wonderful Dream. Since Fee came back, the two have always been together and go through thick and thin together.
G litter (06.10.2018 Bella from Gut Stepprath x Alexander Bodhi van Rosherta)
H litter (06.05.2019 Elderberry´s Wannabe x Barolo vom Bismarckwäldchen)
I litter (03.08.2019 Dalia von Gut Stepprath x Elderberry´s Baba Bear)
J litter (05.08.2019 Aurelia von Gut Stepprath x Arwen of Whispering Delight)
K litter (04.07.2020 Aurelia von Gut Stepprath x Chivas Crossfire van Rosherta)
